Ways of making friends Everyone needs friends, so how to make true friends is very important to anybody. First of all, you must be friendly to others. Smile at others and you always sure to get a smile in return. You should think more of others than of yourself and try your best to make a stranger fell at home. Think as you are in his position. Try to remember others" names, which will make them fell that they have made an impression on you. If you don"t agree with others, don"t argue but discuss with them. Finally, don"t believe those who leave their friends when they are in trouble because “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”

As we all know, most of us middle school students feel somehow nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam. There is no doubt that exams are important to us students, but it’s more important to have a right attitude towards them. As a matter of fact, exams are no more than a means of evaluating, therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the results. Only studying hard very day and making good preparations for exams can we avoid suffering from the pressure of exams.

We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercise before exams. Besides, having enough sleep can make us full of energy and make it possible for us to perform well in the exam, A hot bath or a cup of hot milk before going to bed night help you have a sound sleep.

So, my suggestion is: don’t worry about exams, try to relax yourself.

Dear Sir or Madame:

I’m very glad to be invited to the English summer camp.

I prefer to go in July because I’ll have to prepare myself for the new school term in August. It seems all the activities you offer are attractive and meaningful. But I’d like to attend the English lectures, from which I can get more information on British and American culture. With the coming of the 20*** Beijing Olympic Games, more and more foreigners are eager to know about China. So I hope to teach foreigners Chinese and spread Chinese culture.

It’s been a dream for me to visit Beijing. Could you organize a tour around the city during the camp?

  Thank you very much.

  Yours truly,

  Li Ping

Dear Ieslie:

As scheduled, we will have a Chinese lesson next weekend .Considering our students are preparing for their final exam,I suggest we have the lesson in the park near our school.

The mainly course of our class is to learn the poem of Tang Dynasty. It"s universally acknowledged that the poem of Tang Dynasty is one of the solid foundations of our culture. A large number of talent poets showed their view about the society and expressed their satisfaction with the beauty of our motherland. You can broaden your horizon and have a better understanding of our colorful culture through this study.

Knowing the history of Tang Dynasty is better for you before having class. It"s the society that creates the brilliant poem.

As is shown in the picture above, two men react in completely opposite ways when faced with the same event: A bottle fell off on the ground, and the wine inside spilt out. One is smiling, feeling glad that he still has the rest half of the wine while the other is sighing in great desperation saying that “everything screwed up!” The cartoon tells us that being optimistic and being pessimistic are two different attitudes towards life. Faced with a challenge, a pessimistic person may feel gloomy and distressed. He considers himself powerless, and complains about it all day long, refusing even to have a try before giving it up in the end. An optimistic person, however, may adopt an entirely different approach. He may not regard the challenge as something that bad; instead, he takes it as an excellent opportunity to display his abilities and talent. As an old saying goes, “The way you perceive the world will determine your way to cope with it.” In my point of view, though it is natural that we encounter challenges of one kind or another in our life, we should be optimistic whenever we are confronted with challenges. If we are pessimistic, we are destined to fail, ending up accomplishing nothing. But if we approach the challenges in an optimistic way, we may go from victory to victory.

I"ll never forget the person who helped me The person I shall never forget is my junior high English teacher, Linda. She speaks beautiful English and she"s very kind and friendly. She helped me a lot in my English learning. She always encouraged us to practise more. We often did pair work, group work, discussions and reports. She also brought us a lot of really nice English songs and chants. We never found it boring to learn English. As a result, I made great progress in English. What"s more, I really enjoy learning English. I"ll never forget Linda who helped me in my English study and I"ll try to help others as much as I can like Linda.

Do you see the glass as half-full rather than hall empty? The two different answers to the question represent two different attitudes towards life — optimistic attitude and pessimistic attitude.

Optimism always leads to happiness, health and success while pessimism, by contrast, results in hopelessness, sickness and failure. That"s because optimists and pessimists deal with the same challenges and disappointments in very different ways. When things go wong the pessimist tends to blame himself, while the optimist looks for loop holes. The optimist feels in control of his oval life. If things are going badly, he acts quickly, looking for solutions, forming a new plan of action, and seeking for advice. On the contrary, the pessimist yields to the arrangement of fate and moves slowly. He doesn"t seek advice, since he assumes nothing can be done.

Most people are a mix of optimism and pessimism. Optimism is important in all aspects of our lives. If you can change your mind from pessimism to optimism, you can change your life.

Dear Bob:

How are you getting on recently ? I will have a seven-day trip to London this summer and I"m writing to you for some information of London as well as your advice and help.

I"d like to know the weather in July so as to take some proper clothes with me. And what necessities should I take for my trip? Also I"d like to ask you to name some places of interest for me including the entrance fees in order that I can arrange my trip and have a budget in advance. If you have time then, I"ll trouble you to book a single room in a hotel near your home. Its price should be ordinary , but there should be at least a computer in the room. I"m sure I can communicate with the local people but I"m afraid of making mistakes if I am not familiar with the low and rules there which may be foreign to my country"s , so I have to trouble you ahead of time.

I would be more than glad if you could give me your earliest reply.

  Yours, Li Hua
