[ready for Easter]

[ready for Easter]

I know, I know… we just celebrated second Christmas over here (Orthodox countries celebrate it on January 7) and Old New Year (yes, we have that too – on January 13).

But seriously… I am ready to celebrate Easter.

We were practicing songs the other night for Sunday worship and I kept looking with longing at songs that talk about risen Christ.

“Can we sing that this Sunday?”

“It’s not Easter yet.”

Humph.

I love Easter.

That sunrise service… when you are freezing because it’s supposed to be Spring and you forgot it gets this cold in the early pre-dawn morning.

When you walk into the rising Sun’s light, seeing grins of your fellow brothers and sisters who cheerfully greet you with “Христос воскрес!” (Christ is risen.)

When you sing hymns right there, on the street, and you cannot wipe that smile off your face because the nature seems to sing out in delight along with you.

Christmas is amazing and a miracle.

But I can’t help but love Easter even more.

The other day, we sang “In Christ Alone”… and I was almost laughing with joy when we were singing the third verse:

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

He is risen!!!

  • I’ll go along with you on this. 🙂 Easter this year for us is March 31st. Can’t be soon enough. Oh yeah, that Russian you printed (or is Ukrainian?)? Back at ya. 🙂

    • Ours is on May 5th this year… So we still have a LONG way to go 🙂

The phrase can be both Russian and Ukrainian (just pronounced a bit differently) 🙂
