[glimpses of ukraine: kyiv]

As you know, I am from Kyiv, Ukraine.

Ukraine is located between Poland / Belarus / Russia (but it is NOT a part of Russia – please don’t confuse the two) / Hungary / Moldova…

It is territory-wise the largest country in Europe.

Ukraine has been independent since August 24, 1991. We are struggling, but still independent.

Kyiv is the capital of the country – it is a city of about 5,000,000 people during the daytime (a lot of people come to Kyiv for work and otherwise live elsewhere).

Here’s a little glimpse of what my city is like. (Maybe this video will help you make the decision to come visit Ukraine:)

  • Seems like it’s way too cold. You could have streets of gold and I probably still wouldn’t visit. =)

    • Cold? It’s spring now. Our springs are beautiful as are fall times.

      • It’s spring here, too. I just looked up Kiev’s forecast for today… it’s 50 degrees (fahrenheit) warmer here (or 25 degrees Celcius warmer). You’re still in winter, my friend. =)

        • Well, it’s changing. Today it was in 60s F 😛 And I didn’t say you could only come in winter. If you would ever consider coming to this neck of the woods, I’d say come in May – when chestnut trees are in full bloom (they are Kyiv’s signature trees – all over the city… I love them).

          • Sounds beautiful!

          • It is. Back when I was a kid, we also had pink chestnut trees on the main square downtown. They were killed when an underground mall was added, but they planted new ones a couple of years ago. They are the best.

  • I’m sold!  I thought at times I was looking at a real scene with time lapse photo and at times like I was looking at a computer animated LEGO type of movie.   Knocks out the stereotypical view of a European country.
