I have been cleaning the apartment last week and got into a bookcase that I usually ignore.

Sorting through the books, I stumbled across the photo that I have been looking for so long.

It is a picture back from October ’86.

I am 8 months, my cousin Natasha is 12 years old.

I love everything about the photograph.

I am in my favorite cousin’s arms (she was and is my role model).

I am wearing my favorite overalls (I have no idea how I managed to remember it, but I remember that I loved it. It was uber-expensive back in those days, 1/5 of mom’s monthly salary… and yet, somehow my aunt managed to get it – besides the high price, there was a deficit of everything)…

The reason why I am grinning so brightly is not because I was just a happy kid. I was. But as my family told me the story, the day when the photographer came, I was in a sully mood. So in order to make me laugh, my grandma stood behind the photographer and hit herself on the head with a newspaper. Don’t ask me why that made me so happy – I have no idea. But somehow it did (my grandma obviously knew me well).

I love this photo.

Do you have a favorite photo of yourself? Does it have a story behind it?

By the way, it’s possible to attach pictures in the comments, so feel free to share your pics 🙂

    The plot thickens!

  • Crud. The picture I want to attach isn’t on my computer. It’s one of me as an infant. Surprisingly, I don’t have a beard AND I’m blonde!

    • LOL – you’re BLONDE??

Although, I have been a blonde when I was a kid as well. I have never dyed my hair, but on some pics (when I was about 16-17) I have bright red hair and now the color is sort of chestnut, I guess… My mom asked me last night whether I did something to my hair to make it darker… I looked at her: “Well, in winter I am always darker, in summer I am usually lighter…” But then, my hair changes color depending on the weather, my mood, the clothes I am wearing, the time of year, and a bunch of other factors… true story!

      • Crazy, ain’t it? I later dyed my hair blonde just to see what it’d be like. Since then, dark brown hair all the way. Super weird.

        • Guess it can be classified as crazy 😀 There’s a bit of craziness in each of us 😀

Do you have a picture of yourself with the hair dyed blonde? I’m having hard time picturing you with light hair 🙂 (Did you dye the “Ferret” as well?)

          • Haha. I was 16. And though I didn’t shave everyday, I didn’t ever let the Ferret actually exist until I was about 18.

This is the only decent picture I could find, but the hair isn’t really bright (since I have dark hair N all), so I don’t look all that different.

  • Nice 🙂 Thanks for sharing! 😀

This is great!  And the fact that, as young as you were, you knew some aspects, that’s pretty amazing.

One of my most intense photos when I was just turning 5?  The mumps… both sides of my neck.  I look very BIG when I was usually quite small.  Oh, well….

    • Well, some of those details are told and re-told by my family, but I do remember the red overalls 😀

I’ve never had mumps (yet, anyway) – but my friends did. I guess that *would* make a truly intense photo.
