[shattered expectations]

[shattered expectations]

Today Michael Perkins talked about Finding Nemo cartoon on his blog and in the end, he asked “What’s your favorite animated movie?”

I didn’t have to think for a long time. Of all the cartoons, Shrek #1 is one of those that I can watch over and over again.

Besides being funny and lifelike, there is one thing that I love more than anything else.

The fact that the expectations aren’t met.

In life, there are so many times when we think “It’s going to be this way and that way.” And we get disappointed when it does not work the way we expected.

Shrek fell in love with the pretty Fiona, but it wasn’t her prettiness that drew him to her. It was her spunky spirit.

Yet he knew that he’s an ogre and can’t even allow himself to dream of settling down with her – she deserved better.

But then… the true kiss of love transforms Fiona… into an ogre as well!

Talk about something unexpected! I remember watching Shrek for the first time and gasping along with the people in that castle when I saw Fiona’s “true condition.”

However, that’s what I love about Shrek.

True love wins – and shattered expectations only help that to happen.

I love that movie because it reminds me that destroyed expectations don’t mean that my entire life is wasted. Just the opposite – when I let go of the expected, God is free to do what He does best – UNEXPECTED.
