[are you content?]

[are you content?]

I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty.

Apostle Paul, Philippians 4:11-12, MSG

Today, for the second time in my professional life, I have been asked “How can we make you happy?”

I never know how to answer that question. As I pondered on that while making tea for mom and I, I realized that I have taught myself to enjoy whatever I get.

What’s wrong with that, you might ask?

Well, at first glance – nothing.

However, there was something I have realized which sort of made me reassess what I believe.

I have learned to be content in most things, but I forgot that there is so much more that is out there! I mean, God’s got EVERYTHING (and whatever He hasn’t got yet, He can easily create)… and here I am, just content with breadcrumbs while the feast cooked for me awaits in silence.

Makes me wonder, how much am I missing just because I do not ask?

  • Yeah. That's one of those things that seem to be a paradox. How does one be content with what one has, but still seek God's best? I think it has to do with trust. Hebrews 4 says "Let us then approach the Throne of Grace with confidence that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Be alright with "just enough" but ask God to bless.

        • i haven't yet… but i have heard about the main principle so many times that i know what that phrase means πŸ™‚ besides, it's became one of those catch-phrases (pun intended)))

  • Today, for the second time in my professional life, I have been asked “How can we make you happy?” Boy, is that a loaded question. Sort of like a Catch-22! If you answer it with something then it looks as though you are unhappy and discontented. If you say, "I am fine" then the person asking is liable to assume you are fine and just move on. Then you want to stop them and say, "However, there is something…." πŸ˜› Seriously, this is a tough question. I certainly don't want to appear ungracious toward God but if I do ask, am I being that way? UGH!! Thanks for making my hear hurt Zee.

    • Well, the background for that question was that we are starting to work with another company to provide us with tech support regarding one of the IT projects that somehow became "my" project… and we're thinking about expanding and enhancing our web structure (using the newer software than we are now using), so they wanted to know what i want to be there so that they can tell me whether it's possible to implement those wishes.

but with God – yeah… i mean… *sigh* can life be easier?

  • Oops "head hurt." It disappeared from the box and I couldn't see what I wrote. I reckon you don't want long comments. LOL

    • **hug** didn't mean to give you a headache, bro.

btw, you know that i love comments, so write away, even if it takes 5 comment boxes to write πŸ˜€

  • I'm that way too. I sometimes think how much more God would love to give me if I'd just ask. Instead, I take the mundane and try to be content.

    • Uh huh, exactly what I was thinking about… Is there a proper way out?
